About Us

Since 1936 this lovely building has dominated the ventnor skyline.

A potted history

Ventnor Winter Gardens is a fascinating structure located on the Isle of Wight, England. This entertainment and social venue was built in 1936 on the site of the Royal Victoria Gardens, which opened in 1833. The Winter Gardens was designed to attract tourism and provide a hub for community life, featuring a grand ballroom, theatre, and restaurant.

Over the decades, the Ventnor Winter Gardens witnessed the ebb and flow of local history, from WWII, when it served as a temporary wartime hospital, to the mid-20th century, when it became a thriving venue for concerts and dances. The architecture reflects the art deco style of the 1930s, with a white façade, curved surfaces, and distinctive large windows, a beautiful reminder of its heyday.

Today, it continues to serve as a  venue for concerts, films, theatre, and community events, contributing to the cultural richness of the Isle of Wight.
